Fun with LEGO!

Yesterday on Monday, my hub and I created cars, a bridge and the tallest tower with Lego. for the cars we had to see how far it would go using a ramp everyone's turned out good, next we went to build a bridge. We would make a bridge to see if it was stable enough to have a book on it I built a bridge with my two friends Gianna and Samantha. Our's was stable to balance between the two tables we used but not balanced enough to have a book on it. Last but not least, The tallest tower. This Lego creation wasn't too hard just the making it tall. Again I did it with my friends Gianna and Samantha, At the end we all had fun this is the end of my blog, Please help yourself to see the photos I have down below

Which Lego creation would you want to build?
The car, Bridge or The Tallest tower.

Help Save Our Environment!

In reading this term we have been reading about the environment. I have enjoyed reading this book called "People and the Planet" my group and I got to choose a book for reading and got information from it.

Please see my slide below to see the key points from this book. This shows everything that I have read and understood.

This book relates to our PBL because it is about pollution and how we are hurting animals.

Race to win it

Yesterday on Thursday it was cross country. My whole school walked to Walter park it was kinda cold but not really. When we arrived to Walter park the year 3/4 ran first then 1/2 and then us the year 5/6. The year 5 girls and boys ran first and then the year 6 girls and boys ran after we all had to do 2 whole laps around the park with some of the year 7/8 cheering us on. We finished our first lap now onto the second, After our second lap we stopped and I just collapsed to the ground and was out of breath after a few minutes I was drinking some water and we went back to school.

How many laps would you rather do for cross country?

PBL Fun Zone

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and my group and I made kindness tickets for each hub that the teachers then choose kids to come to our fun zone if they are choosing kind. We all did our fun zone on friday at morning tea and lunch. Morning tea was for Tumu we did apple bobbing, M&M tossing, The chocolate cutting game and tasting and smelling test. each 5 kids were put into groups of 2 for each activity the smelling and tasting testing was a big hit .the kids from the hubs seemed to enjoy it!

Reflection:
For our final product our group The kids on morning tea from tumu was Max,Frankie ,Lara,Archie ,Daniel and Benjamin. First we started off with M&M tossing first we grabbed one plastic cone and gave it to Frankie and lara got M&M’s and when she threw it Frankie tries to throw some M&M’s into the cone and if they get some M&M’s in the cone they get to eat it and then we had apple bobbing. the water was freezing they tried getting a apple out of the bucket. it was tricky. next the chocolate cutting game we cut the chocolates in four blocks and see who can get the apple’s out with their mouths lastly the smelling and taste testing we had mayo, fruit burst, vanilla scent and lime scent that was our biggest hit so everyone did our activities!

We did this for our PBL because our school value is choosing kind so we decided to do kindness tickets so the kids will learn how to be kind.

I contributed by buying the chocolate for the chocolate game, setting up the games and helping with ideas.

I think the PBL might impact on others by inspiring others to be kind. This will make people feel happy. When they were playing they looked excited.

What I learned about working with others was Easy because you get to share what you think and share your ideas and it makes you do your quicker.

Perfomance

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is……you're religion, traditions
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read….Maui and the sun. I retold the legend of……..Battle of the mountains in my own words.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:
For our production I contributed by...Singing and making a sign for lake Taupo.

I think the show might impact on others by...the dancing is great and the singing is loud and clear so people will feel excited and make it memorable.

What I learned about working with others was...We were helping each other out and its turned out great!
